UNDERSTANDING IPL
What Is IPL?
IPL uses precisely calibrated pulses of light as part of dry eye treatment for suitable patients with Meibomian Gland Dysfunction.
In2Eyes uses Lumenis Optilight IPL technology for dry eye treatment.
IPL is designed to help stimulate the function of the Meibomian glands, which produce the oils that help support a stable tear film.
Your optometrist will determine whether IPL is appropriate based on your symptoms and dry eye assessment.
YOUR TREATMENT
What Happens During IPL?
Your optometrist will guide you through each step of the treatment.
Prepare
Remove makeup from the treatment area before your session.
Protect
Protective eye shields are used to protect your eyes during treatment.
Treat
Conductive gel is applied before carefully controlled IPL flashes are delivered around the eyelid area.
Support
Treatment is combined with other recommendations where appropriate, including meibomian gland expression and home care.
BEFORE TREATMENT
Is IPL Right For You?
The right treatment starts with understanding your eyes.
Before IPL, our optometrists perform a comprehensive dry eye assessment to understand the underlying factors contributing to your symptoms.
This helps us determine whether IPL is appropriate or whether another treatment approach may be more suitable.
WHAT TO EXPECT
How Quickly Does IPL Work?
Everyone responds differently to treatment. The current In2Eyes treatment protocol uses a series of sessions rather than relying on a single treatment.
The initial protocol is normally performed two weeks apart for five sessions, followed by treatment as needed.
ONGOING MANAGEMENT
IPL Is Part Of Your Dry Eye Care Plan
Managing dry eye often involves more than an in-practice treatment.
SAFETY FIRST
IPL Isn’t Suitable For Everyone
Certain medications, medical conditions, skin types and other factors can affect whether IPL is appropriate.
Your optometrist will discuss your medical and eye history before treatment and advise you if IPL is suitable.
YOUR NEXT STEP
Could IPL Be Right For Your Dry Eye?
Start with a comprehensive dry eye assessment. Our optometrists can assess your eyes, explain what they find and discuss the treatment options that may be appropriate for you.
